# If your phone is lost

> How to disconnect a lost or stolen phone from the workspace, Buff Code and your company’s installation, and what happens to the data on it.

Disconnect the phone — it takes a minute, and it immediately loses access to every installation it
was paired with. You can do it from any computer where you sign in to the workspace or where
your Buff Code is installed.

## Where to disconnect it

- **Workspace** (buff.systems, Buff Community, Enterprise): “Settings → Phone” → “My
phones” → **“Disconnect”** next to the phone. Repeat in every installation the
  phone was paired with.
- **Buff Code:** in the window, “Settings → Phone” → “Disconnect”; in the console — `/phone`.
- **Cannot sign in yourself** — ask the organisation owner (they see “Organisation’s
phones”) or the installation administrator (the “Mobile app” section of the admin panel, “Employees’
  phones”).

## What happens

- **At once:** the buff.systems gateway breaks the connection, and the phone can no longer read or
act — its key for this installation is no longer valid. If you find the phone, pair it
  again with a new code.
- **As soon as the phone is online:** the app gets a refusal and wipes this installation’s data
  from itself.
- **While the phone is offline:** what the app had saved stays on it
encrypted, and the key is in the phone’s secure storage; it cannot be extracted without unlocking the phone.
Acting on your behalf from such a phone is no longer possible.

Changing the workspace password when you lose a phone is not required — it is not on the phone. But if
the phone was not locked or you are in doubt, change it: it is a good habit.
